President’s MessageDon MillerPart of our Chapter 723 tradition has been to gather and donate toys at Christmas time for the kids at Casa Pacifica.Bringing a smile to those kids’ faces is part of what Chapter 723 is all about. In February John Slais, Ernie Salmon and I attended an ‘appreciation’ lunch at the Casa Pacifica site where we learned more about the status of various Casa Pacifica programs.Over lunch, Ken Wilkinson, one of the Casa Pacifica ‘Amigos’, expressed an interest in ‘a day at the Camarillo Airport’ for the kids to gain a better understanding of aviation and aviation careers.Since the luncheon, Ingrid Cleffi, Recreation and Therapy Supervisor at Casa Pacifica, has contacted me and “is very interested in possibly having their kids visit the airport”. They would like to incorporate this into a learning theme this summer as part of their summer camps. We are looking for a small group of volunteers who could organize and execute a ‘Day at the CamarilloAirport’ for the kids.A list of activities could include:
a tour of our Chapter hangars where the kids could see how airplanes are built,
a tour of the CAF hangars and museum,
demonstration flights of some of our member’s aircraft, and
possibly a tour of the control tower.
Please consider volunteering to help host these kids. This is a very important part of our mission and objective of our Chapter. We’ll talk about it some more at Saturday’s meeting.
Buckle up, it’s going to be an exciting ride.DonP. S.It’s pretty clear to all of us that the hangars need a spring cleaning.During a recent inventory of the hangars, Ernie Salmon noted that the contents of some of the cabinets “defy description”.In a nutshell we have too much stuff. While we work a clearing out some of the ‘stuff’ that we don’t need, we changing our ‘donation policy’.Until further notice please do not bring your donations to the Chapter hangars unless you have approval from a Board member (me included).Sometimes, your treasure IS someone else’s trash. Buckle up, it’s going to be an exciting ride.Don
